Of the two further deaths in Hereford County hospital from coronavirus announced yesterday, one was a Ledbury resident.  No further details are available, nor would it be appropriate to publish them.  The Portal sends its deep condolences to all their families.

As at 1st April, this brings the total number of Covid-related deaths in Herefordshire to 3, with 40 confirmed cases.  Having remained at 25 for a few days, it went up to 35 (announced on 31st March), with another 5 announced yesterday (1st April).  Update evening 2nd April: A further 7 cases have been reported overnight in Herefordshire, bringing the total for the county to 47.

So definitely no time for complacency - this disease is now in Ledbury.  Regrettably, there have been reports of youths flouting new social distancing rules in the Walled Garden, which has prompted the Town Council to seriously consider closing it at a time when it will be looking at its best.  However, owing to its amenity value, particularly for the elderly, there is opposition within the council to do this.

Wassail (in the original Old English meaning of the word - wæs hæil ‘be in good health’).
