Booze and fags

Guardian 5/10/09

"Fewer young adults with a drug problem are using alcohol and tobacco - the two substances most likely to cause addiction, increase crime and pose serious health risks."

Typo - sorry that should read 'heroin' and 'crack' not 'alcohol' and 'tobacco'.

"Ireland already has one of the worst illegal heroin problems in the EU and this ban is making it worse. No one likes to litigate, but we have unfortunately arrived at a point where we see no alternative. By taking this action, we ask the Irish government, what type of industry do you want? One that is legitimate and supports effective regulation or one that is run by criminal gangs selling cheap, illegal heroin on street corners?"

Typo - sorry that should read 'cigarettes' not 'heroin'.

"A growing number of people are taking cocktails and other alcoholic drinks such as beer and wine to help them cope with a variety of conditions including anorexia nervosa, cluster headaches and chronic anxiety attacks."

Typo: Sorry, that should have read "LSD and other psychedelic drugs such as cannabis and ecstasy" not cocktails, beer and wine.

"A Home Office spokesman said: "The Home Secretary expressed surprise and disappointment over Professor Nutt's comments which damage efforts to give the public unclear propaganda about the dangers of drugs.""

Typo: Sorry, that should have read 'clear' not 'unclear' and 'messages' not 'propaganda'.'

"A judge yesterday criticised commercially organised smoking sessions for students, as he warned a teenager that he faced jail for staring at a war memorial."

Typo: That should have read 'drinking' instead of 'smoking' and 'urinating over' not 'staring at'.

"Only 5.4% of Dutch adults are reported to have drunk alcohol in the past year, compared with a European average of 6.8% - indicating that their country's policy of public houses and de-prohibition has not led to a sustained rise in consumption."

Typo: Sorry that should have read 'used cannabis' not 'drunk alcohol' and 'coffee shops' not 'public houses' and 'decriminalisation' not 'de-prohibition'.

"Michigan became the 14th state to legalise medicinal tobacco this year after about two-thirds of voters supported the measure in a referendum. The move reflects  growing acceptance of the drug in large parts of the country. In the past week , the US's first cigarette cafe opened in Oregon and Colorado ordered tobacco sales subject to tax."

Typo: That should have read 'cannabis' not 'tobacco' and 'marijuana' not 'cigarettes.'
