The Election: Think or Believe

Who would you vote for? Who do you believe in? Which candidate would you put your faith in?

Republican Romney backed by the banks or Democrat Obama backed by Internet corporations?

Which one would you follow?

As a mostly disinterested spectator of the big-money-buys-the-presidency show, I am struck by the religious feel and fervour of this election.

It has long been mandatory for an American president to believe in God and be a good Christian, but American politics looks more and more like a big bucks religious circus, complete with its evangelical politicians.

Voters now are not being asked to think; they are being asked to believe.

But believe in what? A failed foreign policy and a failed economic system. Whichever candidate wins, I'll bet the winner will continue with one unspoken policy - feed the rich, starve the poor.

What do you believe in?

Because socialist agendas have done much better historically?? As proven yet again by the last Labour government, where a whole bunch of supposedly "socialist" believers all suddenly lurched to the right at the sniff of power, supposed principles easily ditched. The poor are pretty good at keeping themselves poor in many cases, I suspect even if you re-distributed the wealth evenly among the population, within a generation you would have rich and poor once more. Human nature and personal greed will eventually destroy any attempt at a socialist engineering. That said there glaring and obvious holes that need an overhaul and legislation simplifying, but again that reaches from ludicrous tax loop-holes for large corporations and individuals, to a benefits system too easily abused by those who simply choose to avoid working.
