Every Little Hurts

Pornography retailer Tesco is to cover up its lads mags, it has been widely reported.

This 'censorship' is revealing.

Firstly, if enough Tesco customers get together en masse and campaign, they have proved they do have the power to force corporate giants like Tesco to change policy.

Secondly, Tesco has the power to force the lads mags to self censor themselves by covering up their mag covers. If Tesco says jump - then you better had jump.

Thirdly, Tesco doesn't actually really care. It will continue to profit from selling pornographic content despite consumer groups telling Tesco that it is "unacceptable to treat women like sex objects" and that "by portraying women as dehumanised sex objects they fuel attitudes that underpin discrimination and violence against women."
