Herefordshire Council Rubbish

Herefordshire Council Rubbish collections for Ledbury tomorrow may or may not go ahead - according to Herefordshire Council it depends on the weather - well, doh!

The problem here is Herefordshire Council are giving this information out over the phone one at a time if you care to wait. Why phone at all?

Yesterday Herefordshire Council website clearly stated it wasn't collecting the rubbish. Today there is no news from their website. No news = well, usually good news, and if the schools have already made their decision to open or not, why not the rubbish collections?

Having to phone the Council to get a clarification is ridiculous and obviously the Herefordshire Council press office are not up to job.  What's the point of a Herefordshire Council press office when they can't publish their own relevant news?

Re: Herefordshire Council Rubbish

At about 11 o'clock Herefordshire Council  put this on their website:
"Refuse collections across Herefordshire have been suspended today, Friday, January 8, due to the snow and icy weather.

Residents are being asked to keep hold of their refuse and recycling which was due for collection today.

Refuse can be put out next Friday for collection, and recycling in a fortnight's time, if conditions allow.

Herefordshire Council and its partners will assess the conditions on Monday morning prior to deciding on whether collections can take place.

Look out for further updates on the council’s website and by tuning in to your local radio station.

All the county’s household waste sites are also closed today."

That's their bit of news for today.

Did you know there are at least three press officers working in Herefordshire Press office. Between them they wrote four press releases yesterday - about their average. All their information comes from within Council departments so it's not like they have to go out and research stories, though one would expect them to sometimes.

Some up to date relevant information would be helpful.

Re: Herefordshire Council Rubbish

Last Monday evening I ordered some computer gear from a company in Bradford (oop North). On Tuesday I received text and e-mail telling me that the order had been despatched and had arrived at the Gloucester delivery depot. On Wednesday morning I received a text telling me that the order had been loaded onto a van and was scheduled for delivery later that day. Noting the weather conditions and the fact that my refuse had not been collected (again), I expected the delivery to fail. Not so. Mid afternoon, a courier trudged up my snowy driveway and asked me to sign for two large boxes. "Well done!", I said, "I didn't expect you to get here today". He looked surprised. "Why not?" he asked. "Well..." I began, but it was too late to explain. He was back in his van and off up the road like it was just any other day.

So, there you have it. Despite the snow, the professionals can turn an order around within 48 hours (yea even from Bradford via Gloucester) whilst Herefordshire Council are still unable to collect my Christmas and New Year trash.
