Flooded with Career Politicians

If we ever needed proof of why we don't need career politicians, the floods hitting the UK are it.

We've long seen government ministers meddling ideologically with everything from education to health, starting wars we don't want and helping to sink the economy in numerous ways.

But how and why exactly do the ideologies of right and left combine to create ecological disasters that impact on so many people with flooded houses etc. There should be nothing political about the mismanagement of UK ecosystems, but these floods have been caused by government interference and ignorance.

If the current minister responsible knows nothing about hills, trees, rivers and floodplains, wouldn't it be better if they were dealing with something less important that they don't know about like schools, hospitals or the next war for the British army to fight?
