The Pozzy is an excellent history of the Ledbury Preserves, written by Brian Hudson, Ken Jollans and David Smith, printed in hardback with colour photography and historical references.

The Pozzy on the Ledbury Portal

The Pozzy covers a century of jam making that starts with the obscure origins of the Jam Factory and its notorious owner T.E. Davies.

The Pozzy covers the highs and lows and successes and failures from jam making to suet production. It tells the story of the changes of ownership, its technical innovations, the complexities of industrial jam production as well as the unusual complications of getting jam to stick to duck for M&S's Duck a L'Orange.

There are the personal stories told of those who worked there; about the friendly, family atmosphere, 'slap happy' work methods and the lethal christmas punch.

So, if you want to know about the early working conditions of the Jam Factory or what 'war jam', 'handballing' or 'the three minute trot' are, then look no further than this potted history of Ledbury Preserves.

Available in Ledbury bookshops, Butcher's Row Museum and the Tourist Infomation Centre at £10 a copy.
