Herefordshire Council’s energy champion, Councillor Phil Cutter, has been encouraging county residents to take advantage of grants aimed at making homes more energy efficient. Councillor Cutter was recently a guest speaker at a lunch held at the Conservative Club in Ross and spoke on how measures such as making sure homes are well insulated and draught proofed can reduce energy bills.

“Many people attending knew elderly or vulnerable residents who could benefit from our Special Energy Efficiency Scheme (SEES) grants which offer £500 towards energy saving measures.

“We have recently extended eligibility to all people over 60 years of age and I would urge anyone who feels they can benefit to contact Domestic and General Insulation, who this year operate as a partner with the council, on telephone 0844 543 0043,” he added.

Councillor Cutter also spoke about energy efficiency at a branch meeting of Age Concern and was a guest speaker at the sustainable schools conference held at Hereford Racecourse. Councillor John Jarvis, Herefordshire Council’s cabinet member for the environment and strategic housing, also spoke at the sustainable schools conference.

Councillor Cutter is happy to speak to any other groups interested in reducing their fuel bills. He can be contacted on 01989 769658.
