Ledbury was treated to a spectacular atmospheric phenomenon on Tuesday 24th July this year. This beautiful ice halo, photographed from the courtyard at the back of the Talbot Hotel, was caused by the refraction of sunlight by ice crystals in the atmosphere.

"The bright spot is the right parhelion or sun dog. The white streak to the right is part of the parhelic circle", explained Dutch physicist and meteorological enthusiast Harald Edens. Although hard to tell from this photograph, Harald added that there might be a trace of the rarer Lowitz Arc emerging from the lower left of the parhelion.
