The Ledbury Reporter has announced the death of Ledbury resident Emilio Ponti, who passed away on Tuesday, 12th July aged 90.
Emilio was, as a staunch Labour supporter, very politically minded and active and had sat on the Ledbury Town Council. In his later years he had turned author and had several hand-written titles published, most notably My Epic Story (2007).
Emilio often came into Ice Bytes, the home of the Ledbury Portal, where he would drink tea and talk about the news of the day. I had many interesting conversations with him and admired him greatly for his active mind, his clarity of thought, his work ethic in his elderly years and how he had stayed true to his beliefs and values.
Extracts from Emilio's autobiography detailing how he arrived in Ledbury as a prisoner of war were published with his permission and guidance on the Ledbury Portal in May 2009: 27 PoW Camp Ledbury.
Emilio is another of Ledbury's great characters who will be sadly missed.
