Ledbury based company GBR Industries Ltd (Galebreaker) and Sainsbury’s are in discussions that could see two new developments in Ledbury.

Galebreaker started 27 years ago as a small Herefordshire-based family business and has undergone rapid growth in recent years to become UK leader in several markets. Currently based at New Mills Industrial Estate, Galebreaker are looking to expand their business by building new purpose-built, flagship premises in Ledbury, with all staff set to be relocated.

Sainsbury’s who wants to bring a new foodstore to the town, has been in talks with Galebreaker for some time about their current premises on Leadon Way. The proposed store will provide better product choice and bring another much needed petrol filling station to the town, as well as 220 full and part-time jobs.

Galebreakers’ exciting growth plans will be dependant on planning permission being granted by Herefordshire County Council for both Sainsbury’s and Galebreakers’ development.

Jeremy Scudamore, Managing Director of Galebreaker, said: “We have doubled in size since 2003 and are now a UK leader in the agricultural industry and have distributors in sixteen countries. This growth has allowed us to diversify into several new markets.
We are keen to stay in Ledbury and hope we will get the support to reach our target of 50% growth over the next 5 years, which will bring with it new jobs”.

Michael Adenmosun, Regional Development Executive for Sainsbury’s, added: “Whilst it is still early days and contracts haven’t all been signed, we are very pleased to be announcing our part in the redevelopment plans, which will include a Sainsbury’s foodstore in Ledbury.”

“By offering better product choice we would save people travelling to neighbouring towns. Provided the contracts are signed, a thorough public consultation will be carried out before any plans are submitted to Herefordshire County Council, the full details of which will be made public soon”.
