After living in the region for almost 11 years, I though it was about time I made the effort to see the Severn Bore.  The weather forecast promised good weather and we arrived at Minsterworth at 0915.  Taking a flask of coffee we strolled along the river seeking a good vantage piont.

A small crowd had already gathered and this increased as the time drew near for the Bore to arrive.  It was late...30 minutes late in fact,  but when it arrived what a spectacle.  Great undulating waves that crashed along the banks of either side of the river at great speed, causing people to leap out of the way or risk being sprayed with muddy water.

Suddenly it was over and had passed us, so we drove towards the bridge at Maisemore where people were awaiting the Bore's arrival.  After some while, in the distance we saw figures on surfboards riding the waves, and the rapid rush of water drove them on along white curling waves until the disappeared under the bridge emerging unscathed the other side, wetsuited and upright flowing serenely along, until they were out of sight.  An excited buzz of chatter from people who were watching and hundreds of clicks of cameras and camcorders, all hoping to catch that moment of nature showing her glory.
