Hereford Cathedral’s season of summer lunchtime concerts begins on 9 April with a special Easter Monday concert at 1.15 pm. Dr Roy Massey will be playing a selection of popular and colourful music showing off the fabulous cathedral organ to full effect.

Played on the historic Willis organ, these lunchtime recitals have become a popular part of the music programme at the cathedral with many people eagerly anticipating the announcement of all the organists who will be playing this year.

Geraint Bowen, the cathedral’s director of music commented, ‘It’s a pleasure to welcome back Dr Massey for our popular Bank Holiday Monday concert this year. He is fondly remembered by many from his time here as Organist and Director of Music from 1974 to 2001. Easter Monday is one of the busiest times of the year for cathedral visitors and we hope he will be playing to quite a crowd.’

Members of the audience will be able to watch Dr Massey playing up in the loft as there will be live video link to a big screen set up in the nave. The recital is due to start at 1.15 pm on Monday 9 April and will last about 45 minutes. The event is free but there will be a collection as you leave the cathedral to support the work and upkeep of Hereford Cathedral.

Why not come along to the cathedral a little early, have lunch in our 15th century cloister café and browse through the shop where there is a wide selection of cards, decorations and gifts from around the world. The shop and café will be open from 10 until 5pm.

Details of all the services and events can be found on the website www.herefordcathedral.org or do please telephone 01432 374200 for more information.
