Verdant Spaces is an exhibition by local artists Jeanette McCulloch and Angie Hughes at Weavers Gallery in Church Lane until Saturday 3rd November. Collected Items by Jeanette McCulloch
In the words of the artists "Verdant Spaces is an exhibition of embroidered textiles, drawings and illustrations that describes the artists' relationship and interest in the natural world, particularly plant forms". Meadow by Angie Hughes Angie Hughes is interested in the juxtaposition of randomly 'placed' plants in the semi-wild garden, with particular interest in the garden in moonlight, creating a monochromatic effect. Angie has recently been inspired by the Dutch embroider Tilleke Schwartz, who uses 'chaotic hand embroidery'. Night Garden (working drawing) by Angie Hughes Jeanette McCulloch has returned to drawing for this exhibition and has been studying gardens and graveyards and gaining inspiration from medieval books and manuscripts. Jeanette is especially interested in encouraging complex images to appear 'where nothing appears to begin or end'. Peacocks by Jeanette McCulloch The artists have been visiting gardens at Shipley, Hergest Croft, Kimbolton and Abbey Dore and churches at Kilpeck, Deerhurst, Madley and Shobden to make sketches and take photographs to inform their art. Angie and Jeanette have been working together for some years, previously with Artistree and more recently at Ledbury Artplace, where they both run creative workshops. Among the workshops coming up between now and next March are Precious Mica Amulets, Textures with Ario, Christmas Cards, Expressive Impressions, Gold Finger, Technicolour Flora II, Bejewelled Bags and Creative Bookmaking. There are also basket making workshops available with Steve Crofts of Willow Works. Workshops run from 10am to 4pm and tend to cost from £40-£50. For more information on these workshops visit Ledbury Artplace . Navigate here for Jeanette McCulloch's website . The exhibition at Weavers Gallery is open from 10am to 5pm, Tuesday to Saturday until 3rd November. Entrance is free and as well as original artwork there are also postcards of the art on sale.
