What a difference from 2012!

Weather forecast was good so set alarm for 3am. After mandatory caffeine infusion, set off on trusty steed to deafening birdsong. The Hollybush car park was almost full, but we cyclists are permitted to use the track to the west - is it my imagination, or was it steeper than last time?

Finally arrived at the top to be greeted by a number of people - some new faces, plus regulars Davey Thom and Mark Stevenson. Not long now until the first rays of the sun appeared in the north-east, above Worcester:

View towards North Hill

I am delighted to report that paganism is alive and well, including circle dancing and sun-chanting. The flute player and didgeridoo (below, played by Karim - audio clip here) added a real atmosphere as the sun hit the Eastnor obelisk.

One of Ledbury's best photographers, Concave Dave, took a superb photo of the sunrise, which he posted on the facebook. I thought it worthy of a national paper, but he told me he had sent it in to Ledbury Reporter. Of course, the Reporter didn't publish it - they couldn't taste quality and beauty if it kissed them on the lips. Next time, Dave, share it on the Portal.
