Disposable nappies take at least 500 years to start decomposing, according to estimates – the length of time since Henry VIII’s accession to the throne!
Hettie Harris, who promotes real nappies in the county, says they are becoming increasingly popular. She said: “More and more parents are aware of the potential savings that can be made by using real nappies, especially during a recession when for some people money is tight. They are so easy to use and comfy and by avoiding disposables, you are benefiting the environment too – it’s a win win situation.” Many parents have already taken advantage of the Real Nappy Voucher scheme – which is supported by Gloucestershire County Council. On offer is a one off payment of £30 towards the cost of purchasing real nappies. For more details visit www.recycleforgloucestershire.com or call 0870 850 2263. During Real Nappy week which starts on April 27th, a series of events will be held, with experts on hand to give help and advice, as well as demonstrations of real nappies.
