Ledbury Town Council is to consider changing the Town Plan after councilor Martin Eager secured the six signatures necessary from councilors to force the desired action. Councilor Martin Eager wants the clause removed from the Town Plan that protects the town from out of town developments such as Tesco or Sainsbury's.
Councilor Martin Eager is citing this clause as an obstacle to the council being able to debate such planning applications. The retiring businessman who has displayed anti Tesco posters in his shop window, Eager Electrical, has in the past been told by council that he has a conflict of interest between his electrical business and the grocer's Tesco. In the last two votes on Tesco at the Full Council meeting and the Special council meeting called by the mayor, Martin Eager refused to vote at all. Martin Eager told the media that the council had acted shambolically and had completely failed to debate the planning application.
